Entrance Gate for the Historical Jewish Cemetery in Midlum, Germany
In the summer 2022, I started working with State Association of Jewish communities in Lower Saxony, which represents the Jewish communities in Lower Saxony, a Federal State of Germany. The State Association also maintains the historical Jewish cemeteries in Lower Saxony.
Before the Third Reich, there were vibrant Jewish communities in every German town. They all perished in the Holocaust. The only remnants of Jewish culture were Jewish cemeteries, which the Nazis desecrated.
My work with the State Association started when I won a bid to design the entrance gate for the restored historical Jewish cemetery town located in the small town of Midlum in the north of Germany. The State Association accepted by gate design and commissioned the construction of the gate for the Midlum cemetery. The gate was constructed by a local German contractor from my final design and was installed in April 2023.
My gate design has been approved by the Monument Protection Authority (Denkmalschutzbehörde) for the Cuxhaven municipal district in Germany.
